Peyton Manning Breaks Touch Down Record
Peyton Manning now stands alone atop the NFL’s all time touchdown list. Manning broke the record of 508 touchdown passes, set by Brett Favre, on Sunday night against the 49ers. Manning’s 509th touchdown pass went to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to give the Broncos a 21-3 lead. Manning would throw one more touchdown pass on the night for a total of 4, and a career total of 510.
As incredible as Manning’s accomplishment is, there was a time, not too long ago, when this moment seemed impossible. After the2011 season, Manning was cut by the Indianapolis Colts and had undergone 4 procedures on his neck, making many wonder if his NFL career was over. In the 2012 offseason, Manning signed with the Broncos and his career was revived. In the 2+ seasons that Manning has been with the Broncos, he has thrown 110 touchdowns, including last year when he threw 55, breaking the single season record for passing touchdowns.
After throwing the record breaking TD, Manning’s teammates had some fun at his expense, playing keep away with the ball before handing it over to Manning, who later gave it to a representative from the NFL hall of fame. The ball will be on display at the hall of fame in Canton, Ohio starting this week.
In other news, Brett Favre, previous holder of the all time touchdown record, is considering coming out of retirement…
