Burrowing Spider Finds Home in Tourists Chest
A young man on holiday in Bali last weekend picked up a stowaway in his stomach, which turned out to be a spider. The arachnid crawled through a scar in 21-year-old Dylan Thomas’s lower stomach and eventually made its way up to his chest.
The man from Western Australia woke up one morning on the trip to find he had a red scar-like trail across his stomach.
After seeking out treatment he was given antihistamine cream for what doctors thought was just an insect bite. But by Monday the trail had lengthened moving upwards and had started to blister so Mr Thomas was sent to a dermatologist, who discovered the trail was being made by a small tropical spider, having its own trip inside his body.
Thomas has since returned home to Western Australia and told news outlets that “it takes a lot to deter me, but I do feel violated. It was a very bizarre experience just to know something like that was in my body for a couple of days.”
The spider is currently being tested to see which species it is and Mr Thomas will find out by next week, and by the sounds could be in his trophy cabinet the following.
