The Queen of England presented Angelina Jolie today with Honorary Damehood at Buckingham Palace Friday for her efforts to end sexual violence in the UK and various foreign policy services for the country. The 39-year-old movie star was given the insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George.

The Queen had also acknowledged Jolie’s efforts during her birthday speech earlier this year. Jolie serves as an envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative back in 2012.

About the naming, Jolie said the gesture meant “a great deal… to receive an honour related to foreign policy”.
