The running story in my family is that I was scarred by horror films by the age of 3. One afternoon I ran into the kitchen and proceeded to tell my mother that “Chucky just killed the boy, and now he’s after the girl.” My mother ran into the living-room to find me watching Child’s Play (featuring Chucky the Doll).

While my likeness of horror films is now, non-existent, I still find myself immersed in the Halloween spirit. There’s a certain mystique about this time of year where things like witches, ghosts, goblins and monsters hold a certain childlike fascination.

Of course people always think of Christmas when they hear “holiday spirit” but I can’t help but argue that Halloween is the true holiday of spirit and believing.

Halloween is a time where the things that normally frighten us fascinate us—leaving us filled with awe and wonder (deep down wishing that we all had a bit more of the supernatural in our lives).

Take a walk down memory lane with these 13 classic Halloween films:
