Michael Dunn Found Guilty Of First-Degree Murder In Killing Of Jordan Davis
According to Huffington Post, Michael Dunn was found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of 17-year-old Jordan Davis in September, 2012 after an argument over loud music. In February the jury was in deadlock over whether or not to convict Dunn of killing Davis.
On Wednesday, the jury finally reached a verdict. The deliberation took over five hours, however they eventually found Dunn guilty of the murder of Jordan Davis. Dunn testified in the month long trial that he killed Davis in self-defense after the teen threatened him. He also said he thought Davis had a gun, however no weapon was ever found.
According to CNN, Dunn’s parents were in the courtroom for the verdict. Davis’ parents, Ron Davis and Lucia MacBath, both let out a quiet gasp upon hearing the verdict and then hung their heads and cried.
CNN also reports, that outside the courtroom, Davis’ mother expressed her gratitude for a verdict she said represented justice not only for her son but for “Trayvon and for all the nameless faces and children and people that will never have a voice.” She was referring to Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager killed earlier the same year by a neighborhood watch captain who was acquitted in the death.
