According to Reuters, Iraq received “credible” intelligence that Islamic State militants plan to attack subway stationss in Paris as well as in the United States. Iraq’s prime minister confirmed this statement on Thursday, however U.S. and French officials said they had no evidence to back up the claim.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says, the attacks were plotted from inside Iraq by “networks” of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. The information apparently came from militants captured in Iraq.

Abadi said, “They plan to have attacks in the metros of Paris and the U.S. I asked for more credible information. I asked for names. I asked for details, for cities, you know, dates. And from the details I have received, yes, it looks credible.” However, whether or not the information is actually true is still up for debate.

A senior U.S. administration official speaking on condition of anonymity said no one in the U.S. government was aware of such a plot, and that Iraqi officials had not previously raised it with their American counterparts.
