Kendall Jenner’s Runway Fat Shaming
Kendall Jenner, daughter of former Olympian Bruce Jenner, and self-proclaimed mom-ager, Kris Jenner, has been making waves all over the fashion industry. Aside from starring in the reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kendall has formed a career she can call all her own, modeling. She showed up on the runway of Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs in New York Fashion Week. In Milan she appeared in Fendi and Dolce & Gabbana and the newest fashion “it” girl is sure to show up in shows at the upcoming Paris Fashion Week.
However, standing tall at 5′ 10″ and weighing about 119 pounds, doesn’t mean small minded, ignorant people won’t fat shame her. Jenner has been a media target for quite some time since she started appearing on fashion runways. The 18-year-old has been a constant victim of bullying and fat shaming in the media. If a girl that weighs less than 120 lbs. and is nearly 6 feet tall is being called fat, what does that mean for normal women?
According to Yahoo! Style, the latest issue of FAMOUS magazine, an Australian tabloid printed a cover story with a photo of Jenner in a bikini at the Tommy Hilfiger show claiming that she’s been accused of being “too fat for runway” and agents are pressuring her to lose 8 kilograms or about 17 pounds.
More recently, with the constant pressure models receive to stay thin, some designers have went as far as to implement a minimum weight requirement for all of their runway models. However, the ploy doesn’t seem to be working as fat shaming is still a “thing.”
