20 Things To Do in Your 20s
Being a twenty-something is confusing as hell. You may not know your exact career path, your love life is probably in shambles and you feel lost as ever. Well, chin up, people. Your 20’s are the best time of your life! Sure you may not have everything figured out, but guess what? No one does.
The silver lining of being in your twenties is having the world at your fingertips. You can do anything, being anyone, and live your life the way you want to live it. No excuses, just be you. Here are 20 things you need to do in your twenties.
Learn to love yourself.
You are going to be the one and only true consistent factor in your life, so always support yourself- even through your worst decisions and bad hair days.
Travel. A lot.
Immerse yourself in a different culture, and gain a new perspective on the world we live in. You could even learn more about yourself in the process.
Experiment.
Take some calculated risks. Dye your hair crazy colors. Change your perfume. Explore your sexuality. Start your own business. Try different cuisines. Fail, a lot. Get to see a different side of yourself, this is the only chance of yourself.
Get cliché.
Go out and sing in the rain. Stay up all night partying. Go on a crazy shopping spree.
Go to a music festival.
Electrical Zoo, Burning Man, whatever. Sing till your throat’s raw and your conscious is free.
Focus on the present.
We could die at any moment, but all we do is plan for the future. Relax and live each day at a time.
Learn a new language.
Impress people with your breaking of linguistic boundaries, and you know, speak. Having this ability not only helps you interact with people, but could actually help you land a career as well.
Learn a party trick.
They might be lame, but they might be awesome. You’re going to attend dozens of parties, why not learn a trick or two to help get them going.
Go to Disneyworld.
It’s perfectly healthy to regress once in a while- there’s no shame in being 20 and still loving Disney. Why the hell not?
Do something that scares you.
These are your golden years, don’t waste them playing it safe.
Be independent.
Get comfortable being by yourself.
Hook up with a stranger.
No strings attached.
Learn to cook.
You can’t live with your parents forever- the more prepared you are for living independently the better.
Take a gap day/month/year just because.
Drop any obligations you have and worry about details later. Catch a train with no set destination and people watch. Go to the movie theater and don’t leave until you’ve seen four movies. Go to the nearest beach and swim around no matter the season.
Learn to say no.
No – to hanging out with people that bring you down; no – to sex you don’t want to have, no- to a relationship that’s just not working. It’s okay to prioritize your needs over others.
Be selfish.
Treat yo’ self.
Sign up for a marathon and run like hell.
Don’t stop till you outrun at least five people.
Write letters to yourself.
Be your own historian.
Fall in love.
It doesn’t have to be with a person. Fall in love with a book, a song, the smell of your favorite tea, the soft purple undertones of a November sky.
Try to grow up too fast.
